mutante_i use cc by-nc-sa/2.5/ license on my mediawiki installation, when somebody clicks the link in my wiki footer there is the comment "A new version of this license is available. You should use it for new works, and you may want to relicense existing works under it. No works are automatically put under the new license, however." which links to by-nc-sa/3.0/ . Now i wonder if i should just change  $wgRightsUrl ,$wgRightsPage $wgRightsText  and $wgRightsIcon all to 3.0 i12:08

paulproteusmutante_, If it's your wiki, and you want to upgrade, yes you should do that!15:54
luisvrejon: have you (or anyone else) written publicly about the open services problem from a CC perspective?15:54
paulproteusluisv, Hey, what do you mean open services problem?15:55
luisvI've seen some mlinksva posts on the problem, but they've been sort of generic15:55
paulproteusmutante_, You just shouldn't do that if you don't want to upgrade, or if there is text written by other people on your wiki - you need all authors' permission to change the license.15:55
rejonluisv: no, have not written about it15:55

rejonplus, just see where redhat and cc positions are, etc15:57
luisvI'm actually not bothered by the domination of web apps15:57
luisvif we can figure out a way to ensure that they provide the same user freedoms that free client software does15:58
luisvwhich is what I'm trying to work on ATM.15:58
paulproteusluisv, Interesting.  Why would they ever let you customize the software package running remotely, though?15:58
rejonyah, gotta have a layer of freedom in there15:58

luisvI'm not sure we have a good answer to the why15:59
paulproteusmutante_, Yeah, exactly.16:00

paulproteusI'm also still in bed; maybe I could change that.16:24
rejonhah16:25
paulproteusBut I don't think it would help me understand, anyway.16:25
rejonI'm saying, the whole point is for this to exist on a sidebar of a site, as a widget16:25
rejonso, it has to be set once, and then save the setting somewhere...so it can be called up and the user doesn't have to set it each time16:25
rejonright?16:25
paulproteusSidebar?  I thought it was to replace things like the "Click here to visit CC.org and pick a license" in MediaWiki.16:25
paulproteusYou know what I'm talking about in the MW installer?16:25
paulproteusBlogspot could have a "Choose your CC license" entry in their configuration pane and this way they don't have to write any code to get a CC chooser API.16:26
paulproteusnathany was telling me that Nate [Kinkade] will modify WpLicense to use this UI instead of its own in PHP, which will cut its size down to 1/3 of its current self.16:27
rejonyes, good...16:27
paulproteusPlus it won't require server-side API calls.16:27
